Sheet music, Books and Manuscript Paper
This was my mother’s collection, and I would like to give it to anyone who might make use of it. So if you, or anyone in your family, or any friend or contact of yours, would like any sheet music or books from this catalogue, please let me know as soon as possible.
There is no charge, you can have any of these pieces for nothing. However, if you want me to post any items to you, I will ask you to pay postage and packing.
I’m happy to post any music to my Welsh pupils, or to bring it with me in October when I next come to Wales.
I’m happy to post music to my overseas pupils, and will investigate postage charges and let you know what they are.
You’ll find the list as a pdf table at the bottom of the text.
SHEET MUSIC
Pieces are listed alphabetically by composer’s name, and it’s not hard to see which composers were my mum’s favourites!
As soon as I know you’d like one or more of these items, I will put them by for you, and they will no longer be available to anyone else. The list will be updated daily.
There is no limit to the number of items you can claim, so please take as much as you like. Hopefully, you, or someone you’re thinking of giving it to, will love it and make use of it.
Some of the items are single pieces, such as Debussy’s “La Fille aux Cheveux de Lin”, others are volumes of pieces, such as Scarlatti’s “Sonatas Book 1”.
If there is more than one version of a piece or volume, and they are different publishers and/or conditions, please specify exactly which version you would like to claim. Some are quite old – one piece was originally priced at 4 shillings, increased to 4/6d! If you don’t know what that means, look it up! I’ve given each item a number (#), so please use that as your reference.
Also, be aware that different editions group sonatas differently; so “Sonatas Book 1” in a Peters Edition may not contain exactly the same pieces as “Sonatas Book 1” in the Henle Edition, and so on. If it’s critical you get the one(s) you want, let me know and I can make sure you get the right edition.
If you have questions about any of the music, and you’d like answers before making your decision, please email me. I’m more than happy to answer, and I can send photos of the cover, interior pages, etc. I can also advise you on the level required to play, for example, “equivalent to Grade 5”. Obviously, I can also let you know exactly which pieces or sonatas are included in any particular volume. In fact, please ask anything about anything!
As you probably know, some editions are clearer than others, and some include helpful text and information at the beginning. Please ask if you want to know more about any particular edition.
It’s all piano music, and its condition varies. I’m using a code for the condition of the music, as follows:
1. As new or actually new.
2. Good or very good condition with no markings.
3. Good or very good condition with perhaps just a name or signature in the front.
4. Good or very good condition, with a few pencil markings (such as fingerings).
5. Mediocre or good condition, with many pencil annotations. Much loved!
6. Mediocre condition, minor damage, many annotations. Much used and loved!
It would be very helpful if you could get back to me by the end of March.
And please don’t be bashful! If you want to claim fifty books, or a hundred books, please do! I’d love it all to go to good homes, so if you, or someone you know, could make use of any of this music, just get back to me.
Music in Condition 1 would make great presents.
BOOKS
Again, please select any you would like – and as many as you would like. Most of these books are old, and they look it, but they are full of really useful information, especially for serious music students. The “Condition” column for books shows mostly 2 or 2/3, meaning the books are clearly old, have some foxing to the pages and occasionally a pencil comment or reference, but none has been extensively written in and all are completely usable.
Many of these books have a value beyond both their financial worth and their usefulness to students, being a glimpse into the way books were written and produced in the early to mid twentieth century. I find this fascinating!
MANUSCRIPT PAPER
Finally, there are some pads of manuscript paper, and if anyone is interested in any of those, please let me know.
