Parents of pupils aged 18 and under are invited to come to my house for an informal chat about your child’s musical progress this term. These discussions are very helpful as communication updates between you, the parents, and me, the teacher.
Last term, only 50% of parents took up this offer, but for those who did, it made a great difference to all of us. These sessions helped me gain a vital new perspective from my pupil’s family, while, in their turn, parents learnt how I assess their child’s progress, attitude and prospects. As you know from our Showcases, I do not measure “prospects” or “progress” in terms of exam success. I use these terms more organically, looking at your child’s musical responses, enjoyment, attitudes and potential. Exam successes are great too, of course, but they are far from being the whole picture.
So I urge all of you to take up this offer if you can. I’d like you to come in for the last fifteen minutes of your child’s lesson in the last week of term. That’s the week beginning 16th December. If this particular week isn’t convenient for you, please let me know and we’ll schedule it for a different time. I’d love to see you all at some point this term, so please let me know if you’re able to pop in.
This post will be read by my adult students as well, and we will also have a short chat in similar vein towards the end of term. It’s just a way of gathering the threads together and making sure we all have the same clear objectives going into next year.
Thank you!
