Parents’ Evening!

Parents of pupils aged 18 and under are invited to come to my house for an informal chat about your child’s musical progress this term. These discussions are very helpful as communication updates between you, the parents, and me, the teacher.

These sessions help me gain a vital new perspective from my pupil’s family, while, in their turn, parents learn how I assess their child’s progress, attitude and prospects. As you know from our Showcases, I do not measure “prospects” or “progress” in terms of exam success. I use these terms more organically, looking at a student’s musical responses, enjoyment, attitudes and potential. Exam successes are great too, of course, but they are far from being the whole picture.

So I urge you to take up this offer. I’d like you to come in for the last fifteen minutes of your child’s lesson any time between now and the end of term. I’d love to see you at some point this term, so please let me know when you’re able to pop in.

This post will be read by my adult students as well, and we will also have a short chat in similar vein towards the end of term. It’s just a way of gathering the threads together and making sure we all have the same clear objectives going into next year.

Thank you!
